Teacher’s play very important role in life of a student. They teach us,educate us, inspire us, motivate us, support us and most importantly they believe in us.Teacher’s give us not only the bookish knowledge but teaches important lessons of life.
Teachers are called as GURU in Sanskrit. The true meaning of Guru is “one who eliminate darkness of ignorance”. “Gu” means “darkness of ignorance” and “Ru” means “one who removes”.They play a vital role in shaping young minds.
In India 5th September is celebrated as Teachers’ Day in memory of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan on his birthday. He was first vice president of India and second president of India. He was a distinguished teacher before he got into politics.
When Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was president of India some old students and friends asked him to allow them to celebrate his birthday on which he answered “Instead of celebrating my birthday, it would be my proud privilege if September 5th is observed as Teachers’ Day”.Ever since then his birthday is celebrated as teachers’ day in India.
Now, I’d like to mention few quotes about teachers and teachers’ day –
“A good teacher is like a candle – it consumes itself to light the way for others.”
— Mustafa Kemal Atatürk
“One book, one pen, one child, and one teacher can change the world.”
— Malala Yousafzai
“Teachers can change lives with just the right mix of chalk and challenges.”
— Joyece Meyer
“Teaching is the greatest act of Optimism.”
— Colleen Wilcox
